Shame and Scandal in the Family

   

 

 

        I must admit that the story headlines caught my attention and made me refocus a bit when I saw what it was. It said, “Martha Stewart denied UK visa but hopes to visit soon.” Apparently the British have this blanket policy of banning people with criminal convictions. As you know the US media darling served 5 months in a US country club prison as a result of her convictions on four counts of obstructing justice in 2004 for lying to investigators about her sale of ImClone Systems Inc. stock at the end of 2001. With such a serious white color criminal act, Ms.Stewart threatened to destroy the   integrity of Wall Street –perhaps the most sacred and important institution that comprised a major facet of the fabric of American capitalism.  The British have been trying for several centuries to teach their former colonies a thing or two about popper decorum in public life, but to no avail. This was the last straw. The message I believe has now sunken in , but  unfortunately ,it took the humiliation of an American  entertainment and wealthy business icon to make the point.

     I  personally did not condone the treatment that was  extended to the 66 year old  entrepreneur who had to in the end reemphasize her undying love  for England, and  its culture and in an effort to cajole  and entice the folks that invented the “ stiff upper lip , the bull dog , Elton John   and Sir  McCarthy  and the Beatles . .As you are aware, in the US, stars  tend to see our stars treated with the utmost respect  especially while they are in Hollywood and  New  York. After all most people here lives their lives vicariously through celebrities and hate to see their fragile egos hurt in any way. Two noteworthy things we must mention on this affair involving the internationally famous business guru, she took this ordeal fine. No tantrums for Ms Stewart. She also sent a wonderful message to other white color criminals do not try to work the system more than you have done already.  

      She left that type of despicable behavior for the likes of aging and obnoxious Jamaican/British Model Naomi Campbell.  She recently went into an air- rage on a BA airline because someone allegedly called her ‘a gollywog.’ She was fined and could face some more jail time on top of what she got in New York for phone throwing and other shoddy and obnoxious actions. For her conviction then she had to do some humiliating community service.   I am not too sure if the legal message is getting through to Ms. Campbell. Perhaps we should let her know that Congressman Anthony Weiner, the love guru with the eye for beautiful models is planning to pass a new law that might impact negatively on   all 1000 models that he allows to get ahead of the line to acquire B1 work visa in the USA.  In it , some   might be quarantine  , serve in a  Brooklyn harem, work in a Manhattan  Chinatown sweat shop , and all delinquents  will  serve time in a male prison  , followed by a two weeks in a future  red zone   in war torn  Teheran- Iran . That should put a scare in her I thought. Imagine if the US really got tough like the British on celebrities and take away Naomi’s Visa   and forced her to be subjected to Rep Weiner for a while.  Hey, you never know. This is equitable justice at last.
